Voices from our sector June 2026
On behalf of our members, we responded to the National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for future generations) Bill 2026. In our submission we raised significant concerns with the following proposed changes:
1. Reform must not create service gaps for children
2. Child safety and quality depending on services being delivered in natural settings
3. The early childhood intervention workforce is under significant pressure already
4. Assessment and planning processes must be holistic and flexible
5. Reform risks disproportionately affecting families experiencing vulnerabilities
6. Greater flexibility is needed with funding periods
7. Family wellbeing must remain central to NDIS policy
8. Governance reforms should focus on quality, sustainability and reducing waste
We are calling for:
1. Plans that reflect child/family need that do not limit access based on caps to categories
2. Assessments completed in all natural settings
3. Reports completed by allied health/ECI professionals to be considered during reassessments
4. Families must be able to access the NDIS as soon as they meet eligibility not following exhaustion of all other service types
5. The family or their representative able to request a re-assessment as soon as needs change
6. A comprehensive workforce strategy that links tertiary study to long term employment
7. Attraction and retention strategies
8. The impact of compounding family complexities and vulnerabilities be considered when building plans
9. High quality paid student placements with provider reimbursements covering the true cost of hosting students
10. Nationally consistent competencies to ensure best practice
11. Fund the true cost of collaboration across disciplines and sectors
12. Risk proportionate registration building on existing mechanisms
13. Simplification of the auditing process
14. Clear communication to families and providers during this time of transition.
