A Piece of Cake?.. Inclusive Practices in Early Childhood Settings

Yooralla KISS has just recently produced a practical 'easy to read' book for early childhood professionals about Inclusion ..focusing predominantly on the inclusion of children with additional needs and their families. The book is titled 'A Piece of Cake?.. Inclusive Practices in Early Childhood Settings' written by Clare Boschetti & Anne Stonehouse.

The book (64 pages) focuses on various aspects of Inclusive practice and gives early childhood professionals the opportunity to reflect on their current philosophy and practice. It acknowledges that Including children with additional needs into local community/childcare settings can be challenging.

It has several sections that include topics of:

  • Inclusion... what's so hard about it?
  • Teamwork
  • Communities
  • Families
  • Environment and experiences

In the SMR it will be used as a tool for professional development for Kindergarten teachers who are being supported through KISS. The book is also available for purchase through Yooralla or Lady Gowrie bookshop.

The cost of the book directly through Yooralla is $20.00 (incl GST) plus P&H. Please call Clare Boschetti on (03) 9551 8438 or email Clare.Boschetti@yooralla.com.au if you would like to purchase a copy.

ECIA(VC) Outcome Statements for Early Childhood Intervention Services

Starting With the End in Mind - The directions identified in this document raise significant issues for the ECI field, including funding levels, the fragmented nature of children's services, professional support needs and the challenges of truly working in partnership with families. However we now have a solid foundation from which to tackle these and other opportunities and barriers as we work to create better experiences for families and children.

Team Around the Child: Working together in early childhood intervention

The book has been written by Sue Davies and members of the Kurrajong Early Intervention Service team who together have a wide range of expertise and experience in the early intervention area. The team consists of therapists, special educators and family support workers. Family centred, transdisciplinary team work with the 'Team Around the Child' concept is the basis of the innovative, dynamic service delivery model developed by Kurrajong Early Intervention Service. An outcomes measurement tool kit has been developed through the project which is included on a disc as part of the book.

This book will allow other professionals and services to take the information and work that Kurrajong Early Intervention Service has found to be successful and incorporate it into their own service and practice where appropriate.
